So, you’ve realized that she or he’s the one. You’re ready to throw that fear of commitment out the window. You’re ready to take a step towards happily ever after. It’s time to get down on one knee and say those four little words – “Will you marry me?”
But where will you do it? Don’t worry. We’re here to help with a few suggestions of romantic spots that can be found in the Asheville area.
- Southern Waterways Sunset River Trip: Take an evening canoe or raft trip on the French Broad River. As the sun sets and you’re floating through Biltmore Estate, take a breath of evening mountain air and pop the question.
- Top of the Chimney at Chimney Rock Park: Standing atop the Chimney, views stretch 75 miles overlooking Lake Lure. Consider reaching the Chimney at sunset and watch Hickory Nut Gorge is illuminated. Hike a trail and propose near a famous movie backdrop, Hickory Nut Falls. The 404-foot waterfall was featured in The Last of the Mohicans.
- The Lagoon or Bass Pond at Biltmore Estate: Straight out of a fairy tale, why not use America’s largest home, reminiscent of a castle, as a backdrop for your big day. These spots can be found as you drive past the house and the gardens on your way to the winery. They’re a bit more secluded from the touristy crowds. Pack a picnic and rent bikes for an exciting adventure to these spots.
- Looking Glass Falls: One of the most famous waterfalls in the area is easy to access and acts as the perfect setting for a proposal. Venture down to Looking Glass Creek and wade in the water while looking at the 60-foot falls.
- The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa: Carved out of Sunset Mountain, The Grove Park Inn exudes romance as soon as you walk through the front doors. Massive stone fireplaces and cozy corridors lead you to the Spa or intimate restaurants. Sunset Terrace is a restaurant located right off the Main Hall with views overlooking downtown Asheville. A romantic meal colored by a sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains almost guarantees the answer will be “yes.”
- Hot Air Balloon Trip: Trips depart at sunrise and last for an hour. As the colorful balloon soars above the Blue Ridge Mountains, enjoy some complimentary Chateau Biltmore champagne and toast to your future together.
