| The Asheville area's beautiful mountain scenery and mild climate make it in ideal golf vacation destination. |
The mountains created a unique design challenge to the dean of American golf course designers, Donald Ross. He designed several courses in Western North Carolina, including the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa golf course (the former Asheville Country Club). His goal was to provide a challenge for players of all abilities.
And now the greatest golfer in the world today will put his stamp on Western North Carolina, as well. Tiger Woods will be designing a golf course for The Cliffs at High Carolina development just east of Asheville. It will be the first course in America designed by Tiger.
A 25-page "Great Smoky Mountain Golf Trails Guide" is available at The Asheville Shop at the new Visitor Center at 36 Montford Avenue. The guide features 22 golf clubs, including the Smoky Mountain Trail, located in the far western corner of the North Carolina mountains, and the Blue Ridge Trail, encompassing the central mountains area around Asheville.
