FREE workshops designed to empower promising entrepreneurs and ambitious small business owners with tips for writing a business plan, finding money and designing a successful operation!
The series provides exposure to the wealth of knowledge and experience of entrepreneurs and executives from a wide variety of businesses and industries.
The executive forum is designed to provide the wealth of knowledge and experience of inspirational leaders and executives from a wide variety of businesses and industries. The speakers present a brief overview of their businesses, as well as specific professional experiences, followed by a discussion of key issues facing their industries in the current business and economic climate.
The Business Plan 101 seminar provides entrepreneurs who plan to participate in the 2012 FAU Business Plan Competition with a process and schedule for developing, validating, documenting and presenting their Business Plan. Upon completion of BP101, participants will be able to adapt seminar discussion topics and presentation materials to their individual requirements. Topics and presentation materials include a description of the activities an entrepreneur should consider following as they develop their business and business plan.
Target Market
This two hour session is designed to help entrepreneurs understand how to evaluate and articulate a company's market opportunity in a business plan. Being able to accurately identify a new or existing market is a significant challenge for entrepreneurs and managers. The outcome of this analysis will have a material impact on the strategic plan, budgeting, forecasting and sales and marketing activities. In addition where a management team and investors seek a business with high growth potential, the size and market trends are a critical component to support the overall business opportunity. This session will focus on how to define and analyze a market at a macro level and also to define a company’s Total Addressable Market ("TAM") to be used for short term planning and presentations.

2012 FAU Business Plan Competition - Competition Day
Eric came to FAU in 2003, and has published 18 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of intellectual property, health care, and technology transfer. Of notable significance is that 8 of these publications were co-authored with graduate students, which is part of Eric’s ambition to seek out talent among our students and to collaborate with them on ideas that can lead to published work.
Eric has taught 12 different courses at 4 FAU campuses, and has won numerous accolades including the 2008-09 FAU Distinguished Teacher of the Year, 2009 Stewart Distinguished Professorship, 2009 TIAA-CREF University Faculty Service Award, 2010 Faculty Honors Fellow, and the 2011 Faculty Talon Leadership Award.
Currently, Eric is the graduate director of the Masters Program in Economics and advises its 68 students, serves as Chair of the Master Teacher Committee, as Faculty Advisor to the FAU Surf Club, Skim Board Club, and Ultimate Frisbee Club, serves on the College P&T Committee, MBA Committee, Graduate Council, and takes 35 FAU students each year to Costa Rica on an International Field Experience.
In his spare time, Eric is writing an Economics textbook to be published in 2013, and has just ran his 2nd marathon this past Sunday.
