Girl getaways make for memorable vacations and it’s so much easier to exercise with the girls. Plus, don't your girlfiends always have the right answer to the age old question: “Does my butt look big in this?” And it really won’t after an active getaway.

Day 1 – The no boys allowed workout

Morning is the best time for balancing your mind, body, and soul. Spend a couple of hours posing, stretching and sweating at the Asheville Yoga Center. From gentle movements to more challenging strength building poses, they have a class for everyone in your group. Want to sweat even more? Try Hot Flow, a combination of flow yoga and bikram yoga in an 80-degree heated room.

Get your feet ready for the hot new spring shoes. Treat yourselves to manicures and pedicures. Sensibilities Day Spa in downtown Asheville has a variety of services to make you proud to show those toes and hands off.

Finish your day by driving a few minutes north to Weaverville to experience The Secret Garden Inn and Spa Signature Treatment of exfoliating scrub, aromatherapy bath, body wrap and massage.  After your massage, walk through Japanese gardens with a cup of tea and just breathe.

Day 2 – Burn calories and a hole in your pocket

Trade your free weights for shopping bags and spend three hours in retail therapy at one of our downtown stores. With so much to choose from - clothes, pottery, shoes, natural home goods, art and jewelry - in no time you will working your biceps. Remember the heavier your bags, the harder you work.

Take a break from all that shopping and enjoy Asheville's mild weather at an outdoor coffee shop. Spend an hour and a half sipping coffee (go with skim milk in that latte to cut down on fat), people watch and catch up on girl-talk.

Stay up and talk late into the night like you haven’t since your last slumber party. You’ve heard that laughter is the best medicine, but it’s also a way to speed up your metabolism.  A Vanderbilt University study found that 10-15 minutes of laughter has the potential to burn the equivalent of a medium-sized chocolate bar. Spend a few hours doing it, and you'll more than cancel out a handmade chocolate purchased beforehand at the Chocolate Fetish or Oh Chocolat in the Grove Arcade. Start talking about old boyfriends, past hair styles, and good times and you’ll be laughing your way to lean in no time.

Day 3 - Float and Flirt

Girls don’t just retain water! Rise above it by heading to Brevard for an exclusive river adventure. Sign up for a tubing trip along the headwaters of the French Broad River with Headwaters Outfitters. For added impact, kick your legs and when it's time to flip over, paddle with your arms. Remember to bring the sunscreen and re-hydrate with plenty of fresh, cold water.  

Shake what your mama gave you! Shake your hips to the music and spend an entertaining evening with your friends. Belly dancing is a serious abdominal workout disguised as fun. Learn traditional Middle Eastern dance moves from Mizilca. Take a group class or arrange for a private lesson with just the girls.
