Day 1 - How does your garden grow?

We can safely assume that the many gardens around Asheville could teach you a thing or two about helping your trees (both big and small) and flowers flourish. Each spring at Biltmore Estate, more than 10,000 tulips come into bloom along with magnolias, dogwoods and native azaleas. Spend two hours walking through the gardens magnificently designed by Frederick Law Olmstead who also designed Central Park in New York City.

Next, visit The North Carolina Arboretum, home to one of the largest bonsai tree collections in the Southeast. With more than 100 specimens on show, including both traditional trees and trees native to the Appalachian Mountains, you’ll soon see why some of the best things come in small packages. Afterwards, stroll through some of the many gardens around the Arboretum for a couple hours. You’ll enjoy all the beauty of gardening without the pesky dirt under your fingernails.

Day 2 -  Rocking and Rolling on the River

Forget tubing or float trips down a river. You seek adventure and the region’s rivers are ready and willing to serve. Hop aboard a raft with French Broad Rafting Company and get ready for a five hour, intense trip down the French Broad River, the third oldest river in the world. Bring a change of clothes in case one of the class four rapids dumps you out of the raft. But, hey, swimming back to the raft will only burn more calories!
